About Dr. Messere

When I started out in medicine, I thought the only way I could make a difference for people was to get an MD, train in something practical, and set up a practice. So that’s what I did. I became a colon and rectal surgeon, because it felt like the best way for me to help people.

It didn’t take long, though, for me to discover that I was very limited in my ability to actually make a difference for people. For people who just needed surgery – remove the problem and move on – it was great.

But so many people came to me who had ongoing, annoying problems that threatened their everyday enjoyment of life. Constipation, irritable bowel, pelvic pain, bloating, low energy, food intolerances.

I did my best, but I was so limited in what I could do for them because I was a specialist. And I was a surgeon, so it was expected that I would spend my day either scheduling people for surgery or performing surgery.

After almost 10 years of doing that, I knew I wanted to make a change. It was important to me to escape the “fix your symptoms, not your real problem” way of practicing medicine.

I studied functional medicine and embraced a holistic approach to health – getting down to the root cause of issues to help all those that I couldn’t help before. And now, at LIFEstrength Health Center, my heart is helping people find wellness again and stop battling symptoms like GI issues, hormonal imbalances and even complex autoimmune struggles. Together, let’s get to the bottom of it so you can start being you again.
