What is Chiropractic

what is chiropractic?

Hint - It’s SO much more than bones and pain

What is Chiropractic?

For your heart to beat, lungs to breath, for any cell to exist in our body requires connection to and from the brain.

The brain controls everything.

Despite modern advancements in wireless technology like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth…we are not wireless! The brain sends the messages down the spinal cord and out the nerves to the tissues of the body.

What is Chiropractic?

Most think that chiropractic is all about bones or pain or soft tissue, but the truth is that it’s all about the connection…or nerves.

The primary most important job of the bones in the spine is to protect the neurology.

When the spine is in the right position (straight from the front and 3 curves from the side), the bones do their job of protecting the spinal cord and nerves.

When the spine is in the wrong position, instead of protecting the neurology, it can put pressure, stress, tension or even damage the spinal cord or nerves.

Our job as a chiropractic physicians is to correct the spine, allowing the body to function at it’s best. Our initial examination, postural assessment, x-rays and / or other testing is find the position and health your spine and neurology is in. We then use a unique combination of chiropractic techniques along with physical therapy to correct the underlying imbalances.

It’s simple;

  • Relieve Pain and Feel Better

  • Restore Proper Function and Balance

  • Prevent Future Episodes

Chiropractic has been proven to be safe and effective for all ages, for millions of patients all over the world for close to a hundred years! We love how well chiropractic works naturally with the body and know you will too.

Who is Chiropractic For?

The Chiropractic is a unique profession. There is a lot of science and research behind it, but there is also an art to it.

Is it good at helping people get out of pain? Yes, it’s very good!

Is it good at keeping people out of pain? Also, yes!

Do you have to be in pain to use it? No. We see a lot of people that are healthy and want to keep it that way.

Do you always feel better after an adjustment? Unfortunately no. The doctor’s job is not to make you feel better, but to correct the underlying issues present in the bone, muscles, ligaments, tendons and neurological patterns present. Most of the time, our patients feel absolutely amazing after care. But it is also common to feel sore as the body “adjusts” to the adjustment.

Do you have to be an adult to get adjusted? The practitioners at LIFEstrength are all parents and understand the responsibility of keep children healthy. Birth is extremely stressful for both mom and baby and our doctors are trained specifically to help pregnant mothers have a shorter and less painful labor experience and in gentle pediatric care for newborns, infants, toddlers and young children.

Techniques our doctors use

The doctors at LIFEstrength Health Center use chiropractic adjustments as a tool in the “natural toolbox.”  We work with each and every patient to formulate a plan beyond the common goal of getting out of pain, one that is specific to each patients needs and desires. While other chiropractic offices typically just treat symptoms, the doctors at LIFEstrength Health Center form a plan of action called “root cause resolution.”

Our doctors and therapists use several different techniques that are carefully selected and discussed for each individual’s needs.  Gonstead, Diversified, Activator and CLEAR Spinal Correction techniques are just some of the techniques our doctors have chosen to train on. They only treat the areas that need to be corrected on each visit. (We understand some patients prefer gentle and lighter methods, all of these techniques can easily be adapting to those who don’t want popping/twisting of the neck).

The Gonstead and CLEAR methods use precise adjustments, and most patients come out saying “That’s the best adjustment I’ve ever had!” It is a corrective method where the doctors analyze your spinal structure and compare findings with x-rays and your nervous system.  This goes a layer deeper than where the pain is and corrects habits and patterns that caused it in the first place.

We also offer lighter techniques such as Thompson-Drop tables, Activator, Arthrostim, and Pettibon or blocking techniques. Thompson-Drop uses gravity and table drops to helps lessen the force the doctor uses, making it a lighter adjustment if you’re in severe pain or don’t like the sounds or “pops” made in regular adjustments.

The Arthrostim method has the doctor using a handheld percussion tool to perform adjustments. This tools is part massage and part adjusting tool and you won’t feel or hear noises or pops like a regular adjustment.  This gentle percussive tool can be used on the muscle to reduce tightness and inflammation along with the actual spine to correct misalignments.

The doctors also use a technique called Pettibon, or blocking techniques after examining the spine. Pettibon uses pillows, wedges or blocks that are places at specific regions of the spine to correct misalignments, reduce rotation or torque present in the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. There is no quick twisting or popping during this technique, and you will lay in a position for a short period of time to help reduce muscle spasms, sharp pains, and tightness.
